Itinerary
Departing early morning from your Nairobi hotel or airport, embark on a scenic 3-hour drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, witnessing the Great Rift Valley escarpment and Lake Naivasha (optional boat ride and walking safari extra cost). Enjoy a brief game drive upon arrival, check in to Sarova Lion Hill Lodge (or similar) for lunch, and then venture out on an afternoon game drive across the vast plains. While the iconic masses of flamingos may be less frequent, you might still witness thousands gracing the shores alongside a variety of wildlife, including the endangered white and black rhinoceroses. After a delicious dinner, settle in for a comfortable overnight stay at your lodge.
Fuel up with an early morning breakfast before departing Lake Nakuru National Park. Embark on a scenic 5-hour drive to the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve, passing through the Maasai town of Narok. Upon arrival in time for lunch, check in to your chosen camp (Ashnil Mara Camp, Sarova Mara Game Camp, or Mara Serena Safari Lodge, or similar) and savor a delicious meal. In the afternoon, gear up for an exciting game drive, venturing deep into the park in search of the Big Five (lion, elephant, rhino, leopard, and buffalo) and a dazzling array of other wildlife. After an unforgettable day, return to your camp for dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.
Rise with the sun for an invigorating 6:15 am game drive in the Masai Mara, returning to camp for a hearty breakfast. Pack a lunch for your full-day exploration within the park. Embark on game drives throughout the day, venturing across the vast Masai Mara plains. During the migration season (early July to end of September), witness the awe-inspiring spectacle of wildebeest thundering across the landscape. Keep your eyes peeled for a variety of other inhabitants, including zebras, impalas, topis, giraffes, Thomson’s gazelles, predators like lions, leopards, cheetahs, and jackals, and even elusive black rhinos. The Mara River teems with life, offering sightings of hippos and Nile crocodiles. Consider joining a guided walk with a ranger for an enhanced exploration near the river (tip recommended). In the evening, return to your camp (Ashnil Mara Camp, Sarova Mara Game Camp, Mara Serena Safari Lodge, or similar) for dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.
Fuel up with an early morning breakfast at your Masai Mara camp before checking out. Enjoy one final game drive as you depart the park at 10:00 am, keeping your eyes peeled for wildlife sightings on the scenic 5-hour journey back to Nairobi. This drive will get you to Nairobi in time for a farewell lunch experience (not included) at the Carnivore Restaurant, a unique dining option. Finally, relax and unwind as you’re conveniently dropped off at your Nairobi hotel or the airport around 3:00-4:00 pm, concluding your unforgettable Kenyan adventure.
